60% more power, close ratio tranny, front disc brakes, etc. in order to meet homologation for rally. An O.G. Cooper or Cooper S is definitely hot. Hatch? Not so much, but I'd let it slide.

Wouldn't have occurred to me I guess. Do you have to meet the Civic/Golf/etc. wedge-look criterium to be a hot hatch?
Couple of counter cool stories:
1) This is the first tuned compact I ever saw ('85 or '86 Dodge Colt), kinda predated the hot hatch/Civic tuning scene by several years 'cause it was from '85/'86. Dude was hip, and this thing was fast and loud, but everyone in the neighborhood wondered why he didn't have a muscle car like everyone else.
